Last week a solar panel was installed on the south wall of the Smorgon gymnasium. The solar energy accumulated during daylight will provide lightning for this part of the territory near the educational institution. The panel will be used as a visual aid and sample when exploring alternative sources of electricity.

The gymnasium received such a gift after the results of the ecological contest “Solar Energy for Green Schools” had been summed up. In the final seven best “green schools” from each region of Belarus were identified, in which A1 will install panels that convert solar energy into electricity. The Smorgon gymnasium is among the winners.

The results of the contest were summed up by a jury consisting of the representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, UNDP, the Republican Centre for Ecology and Local History, A1. In total, the competent jury considered about thirty applications from institutions that have a special diploma of the “Green School”.
